Chihaya was a young girl, too wrapped up in her sister's dreams to ever think of herself. But when the new exchange student Arata shows her the wonder of competitive karuta, her childhood blossoms into a fit of youthful passion, even recruiting their former rival Taichi. However, sudden changes cause them to go their separate ways as they enter middle school. It is only through reigniting their passion for karuta during their high school years that they could possible rekindle the friendship all three still long for.
